Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking motivated and dependable General Laborers to join our dynamic team at the Custer County Highway Department. In this role, you will be an essential part of our operations, performing a variety of physical tasks to support construction and maintenance throughout the county including gravel road, bridge, and asphalt projects. Your energy and attention to detail will help ensure a smooth workflow and that record keeping and safety are maintained throughout each project phase. This position offers an opportunity to develop valuable skills while contributing to impactful projects in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials or equipment safely and efficiently Prepare work sites by cleaning, organizing, and setting up necessary tools and supplies Perform basic construction or maintenance tasks under supervision, following safety protocols Operate hand tools and machinery with proper care and attention to safety guidelines Follow instructions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks accurately and on time Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote safety and efficiency Report any safety hazards or equipment issues immediately to crew foreman Perform general maintenance on vehicles and machinery Skills Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions clearly Willingness to learn and adapt Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in construction or manufacturing environments (nice-to-have) Reliable work ethic with punctuality and dependability at the forefront Ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced setting Benefits Competitive Wages Complete Benefit package for full-time employees including NPERS Retirement, paid health insurance, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, and overtime pay.
