40/Full-time Met Council is America's largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. We fight poverty through comprehensive social services and by treating each client with compassion, integrity, and respect. Our programs are staffed by experts who help over 325,000 clients each year and advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.
Position Summary:
The Driver/Warehouse Worker is responsible for safely operating a 26-foot truck to pick up and distribute food, while supporting day-to-day warehouse operations when not on the road.
Principal Responsibilities:
Pick up food from partner agencies, suppliers, and other donors Deliver food to agencies courteously and on time Oversee the loading and unloading of the truck Maintain accurate vehicle logs and track deliveries Coordinate pickups and deliveries with other drivers Perform routine truck maintenance and daily vehicle inspections Support day-to-day warehouse operations when needed (including moving pallets, stacking product, organizing the warehouse, and conducting inventory) Additional responsibilities as assigned

Skill and Education:
High-school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience (required) Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with clean driving record (required) 5+ years of experience driving a truck with a CDL Ability to operate warehouse equipment including electric jacks and forklift (required); 5+ years of experience operating warehouse equipment (preferred) Familiarity with New York City roads Comfortable using an iPad/tablet and smartphone for data entry, inventory management, and communication Ability to read/write/speak
English Physical Demands/Special Requirements:
Requires extended periods of standing, walking, and performing manual labor both indoors and outdoors, including in inclement weather. Requires the ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items (up to 30-pounds to stock shelves) on a regular basis. Steel-toe work boots must be worn at all times while in the warehouse. Clothing should be appropriate for a professional setting and public interactions, avoiding any profanity, political statements or offensive branding.
Compensation:
$21 - $25 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience
