Job Description

Position Overview The Warehouse Associate (20-25 hours per week), reporting to the Logistics Director, supports Book Fairies' mission to increase access to books and literacy resources by helping manage the flow of donated books into the warehouse and preparing outgoing orders for educators, nonprofit partners, and community programs. This role helps ensure books are received, organized, and distributed efficiently to communities in need. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a warehouse environment while supporting a mission-driven nonprofit. Key Responsibilities Receive and unload incoming book donations from individuals, businesses, and community partners Inspect donations for quality and immediately report any concerns to Logistics Director Stock and maintain organized warehouse shelving and storage areas Pick and pack outgoing orders of books for educators, nonprofit partners, and literacy programs Assist with preparing large distributions and Community Book Fairs Keep the warehouse clean, organized, and safe for staff and volunteers Support volunteer activities within the warehouse when needed Assist with loading vehicles for deliveries or distributions Help plan, set up, and run pop-up book drives in the community on weekends as needed, including transporting materials, driving the Book Fairies' van, collecting donations, and engaging with donors Attend monthly Community Book Fairs to assist with inventory operations Represent Book Fairies in a professional and friendly manner when interacting with donors, volunteers, and community members Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous warehouse, shipping/receiving, logistics, or inventory experience is a plus Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Dependable with strong work ethic and punctuality Interest in supporting literacy and education initiatives is strongly preferred Must be able to successfully pass a criminal and DMV background check Physical Requirements Ability to lift, move, and carry boxes of books weighing up to 40-50 pounds Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods of time Ability to safely move materials within a warehouse environment Work Schedule Standard hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM Schedule may include occasional evenings or weekends, particularly when supporting community book drives. Community Book Fairs, and other events as required Compensation Hourly pay range: $18-$20 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime in accordance with New York State and federal labor laws Equal Employment Opportunity Book Fairies is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating an inclusive workplace.
