Job Description
Job Title:
General Laborer- Entry Level! 1st shift hours 7:30am-5pm $17/hr Job Description This full-time General Laborer role supports an automotive yard that receives wrecked and total-loss vehicles, prepares them for auction, and ensures they are cleaned, documented, and ready to ship to third-party customers. You work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, performing a variety of hands-on tasks that include vehicle access, basic functionality checks, cleaning, and documentation. This position suits someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in attention to detail, and demonstrates high integrity when handling vehicles and personal belongings. Responsibilities Open vehicle doors, hoods, and trunks, using hand tools when necessary to access damaged or jammed components. Remove license plates from vehicles as required and ensure they are handled according to site procedures. Use a jump box to power the vehicle's electrical system and odometer when needed. Attempt to start vehicles, when safe and possible, to test basic functionality and document the results. Clean out trash from vehicles and dispose of it properly in designated containers. Identify and separate personal belongings from trash, placing them in the trunk or in a designated area based on instructions provided. Use a shop vacuum to clean vehicle interiors when required, ensuring the vehicle is presentable for photos and shipment. Test window and door seals when requested to confirm their condition and document any issues. Take clear, detailed photographs of vehicles to support auction and sales processes. Answer questions about vehicle condition and work performed, demonstrating strong attention to detail and accuracy. Operate safely in an outdoor yard environment, including around heavy equipment such as front-end loaders. Participate in regular safety meetings and follow all safety protocols and site procedures. Collaborate with receivers, heavy equipment operators, and office staff to ensure efficient vehicle flow through the yard. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools and equipment used in daily tasks. Adapt to changing priorities and perform multiple tasks throughout the day as operational needs require. Work Environment You work outdoors year-round in a vehicle yard, handling wrecked and total-loss vehicles in all weather conditions. The shift runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a morning break from 9:00 to 9:15 a.m., lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., and an afternoon break from 3:00 to 3:15 p.m. Overtime is available during busy periods. A weekly safety meeting takes place every Thursday at 7:30 a.m. The yard environment can be dusty during summer and dry seasons, especially when using pressure washers or when front-end loaders move vehicles and kick up dirt. When weather is particularly severe, vehicles may be moved into an open bay, but most work remains outdoors. You work alongside up to five receivers, four heavy equipment operators, and office staff, with about twenty employees at the location in total. The culture is team-minded and integrity-driven, with zero tolerance for theft or disrespect. The dress code requires leather work boots that cover the ankles, long pants, and a reflective vest, with attire appropriate for the weather. Safety glasses and gloves are provided, while employees supply their own rain gear and cold-weather clothing until they become eligible for uniforms and a light weather coat.
