Job Description
Job overview: Alpha Iron LLC is seeking a reliable and experienced receiving agent and material handler to join our team at our structural steel fabrication shop. The receiving agent/material handler will be responsible for the safe and efficient offloading of trucks and movement of material with the use of a large capacity forklift. The role is critical to maintaining smooth production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Unload flatbed trailers carrying raw structural steel material.
- Check bill of lading and materials against purchase order to ensure delivery is accurate.
- Inspect and ensure mill documentation is accurate to material and meets AISC guidelines.
- Document information on all material.
- Enter material into operations program as received.
- Ensure processing machines are stocked with the material needed.
- Remove rem and scrap from processing areas.
- Search inventory for needed items and move as needed.
- Maintain inventory and organization of the raw material yard.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years' experience operating forklift in a manufacturing, steel fabrication, or construction setting.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and the ability to follow detailed safety instructions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Flexible and willing to adapt to various tasks as needed.
- Ability to adjust with change of pace and workload.
- Ability to use or learn how to use a tablet to perform the tasks of position responsibilities.
- Ability to Multi-task.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 60-90 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and crouch for extended periods.
- Ability to climb in and out of a large capacity forklift (3 steps) repeatedly.
Working Conditions:
- The position is performed 95% outdoors with full exposure to the elements.
- Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety toe boots, hearing protection, gloves, and safety glasses willt be worn at all times.
