Job Summary We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Tool Crib Specialist to join our operations team. This role is essential for managing the inventory, distribution, and maintenance of tools and materials within our warehouse environment. The successful candidate will oversee tool storage, ensure proper inventory control, facilitate procurement processes, and support efficient warehouse operations. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to process improvements and streamline supply chain activities, ensuring that tools and materials are readily available for production and maintenance needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the tool crib inventory system, including tracking tool check-outs, returns, and stock levels using warehouse management systems and ERP software such as AS400 or SAP. Coordinate with procurement and sourcing teams to replenish tools and materials based on demand planning and inventory analysis. Conduct regular cycle counts and physical audits to maintain accurate inventory records. Facilitate the distribution of tools and materials across various departments while ensuring compliance with safety standards. Implement process improvements to optimize stocking procedures, reduce waste, and enhance overall warehouse efficiency. Utilize data analytics tools like Power BI or Tableau for data visualization, reporting on inventory trends, usage patterns, and root cause analysis. Collaborate with logistics providers and 3PL partners to coordinate shipping & receiving activities, ensuring timely order fulfillment. Maintain detailed documentation of tool specifications, supplier contracts, and procurement records. Support the development of financial models related to inventory costs, pricing strategies, and supply chain analytics. Assist in materials handling activities including heavy lifting tasks while adhering to safety protocols. Requirements Proven experience in warehouse distribution, inventory management software (such as warehouse management systems or ERP systems like AS400), and logistics operations. Strong understanding of supply chain management principles including demand planning, procurement, sourcing, and category management. Proficiency in data collection, mining, analysis skills using Excel data analysis tools, SQL queries, Power BI, Tableau or Nielsen for data visualization. Knowledge of warehouse operations including shipping & receiving, order fulfillment, materials handling, and inventory control practices. Experience with root cause analysis and process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or Lean is highly desirable. Ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage vendor relationships effectively. Familiarity with financial analysis related to pricing strategies, purchasing decisions, and cost optimization. Technical proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP platforms like SAP or AS400, and inventory management software. Strong analytical skills complemented by excellent cross-functional communication abilities. Physical capability for heavy lifting tasks required in materials handling environments. Basic math skills necessary for demand planning calculations and financial modeling.
