Job Description
Position Summary The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, organizing, transporting, tracking, and staging materials throughout the fabrication shop. This position supports production by ensuring raw materials, components, and finished products are available when needed while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, highly motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Individuals with limited experience are encouraged to apply if they demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, attention to detail, and confidence operating equipment in an industrial setting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive, inspect, and unload incoming materials and shipments. Verify materials against packing slips, purchase orders, and inventory records. Transport raw materials, fabricated parts, and finished products throughout the facility. Stage materials for production according to work orders and production schedules. Operate forklifts, skid steers, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently. Load and unload trucks while ensuring accurate material counts and proper securement. Assist fabrication personnel with material movement, inventory replenishment, and project support. Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and material audits. Track and account for raw materials and finished goods to ensure inventory accuracy and proper shipment documentation. Read tape measures and perform basic material measurements accurately. Assist with rigging and material movement operations in accordance with safety guidelines. Organize warehouse, storage areas, and production floor for maximum efficiency. Identify and report material shortages, damaged items, or inventory discrepancies. Follow all company safety procedures and wear required PPE. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment. Assist with shipping, packaging, and loading finished products for delivery. Support other shop and warehouse functions as assigned. Qualifications Previous warehouse, manufacturing, fabrication, industrial, or material handling experience preferred. Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, overhead cranes, or similar equipment preferred. Rigging experience is a plus. Ability to read a tape measure accurately. Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and production systems. Ability to read and understand work orders, packing slips, shipping documents, and inventory records. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Self-motivated with a demonstrated sense of urgency, initiative, and accountability. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Open to training candidates with limited experience who possess strong foundational skills, ambition, and a willingness to learn. Physical Requirements Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach throughout the workday. Ability to work in varying temperatures and manufacturing environments. Ability to safely operate material handling equipment. Work Environment Manufacturing and fabrication shop setting. Exposure to moving machinery, noise, dust, and industrial equipment. Requires adherence to all safety guidelines and PPE requirements, including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, and other protective equipment as required. Preferred Experience Fabrication, welding, metal manufacturing, or industrial production environment. Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, overhead cranes, grinders, and horizontal band saws. Material tracking, inventory control, and warehouse management experience. Experience working in a fast-paced production environment where accuracy and accountability are critical.
