Full Job Description Summary:
The City of Lawrence is seeking to fill the position of Supervisor Solid Waste with responsibilities to supervise field crews engaged in the collection and disposal of commercial and residential solid waste (trash, recycling and yard waste); to assign and direct the work of crews in the field; to participate in a variety of the tasks and duties performed by the crews assigned to field operations and services; and to perform a number of technical and support activities for the solid waste division in the Municipal Services and Operations Department. Key responsibilities of this position include supervising and reviewing the work of staff providing solid waste services; preparing daily schedules and staff assignments, providing and coordinating the training of staff; ability to learn to use the Routeware software; ability to learn and access the data processing and financial systems associated with billing; preparing, reviewing, and presenting reports; investigating, and assisting with the development and administration of the Solid Waste Division annual budget.
Qualifications:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, solid waste management, public or business administration, or a related field. This position also requires at least four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience, including two (2) years of lead or supervisory responsibility in solid waste (trash, recycling, yard waste) collection or other supervisory experience, program management and development. Possession of an appropriate, valid Kansas driver's license. A successful applicant must obtain a Class B CDL within the first year. The successful candidate must pass the background check, and post-offer City physical and drug screen.
