Job Description
Overview As a Solid Waste Engineering Intern for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in the Waste Management Practice in our Pittsburgh, PA office, you'll support in-office and field activities primarily associated with solid waste landfill and transfer station facilities. The majority of your time will be spent in the field, with some office work as required. Field activities include Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) tasks such as monitoring and documenting landfill cell, cap, and gas collection system construction, as well as the use of specialized equipment to monitor landfill emissions. Limited office-based activities may include engineering tasks such as tabulating laboratory and field test data, compiling technical reports, and assisting with stormwater management and landfill gas collection system design. You will interact and communicate with CEC office and field staff, clients, and contractors. Through the CEC Internship Program, you will: Acquire practical experience applying knowledge from college courses, learn from industry experts, and collaborate with teams across functional groups and locations Develop a robust professional network through social events and interactive activities Collaborate closely with a mentor in your discipline to tackle real-world challenges Participate in workshops to help foster interpersonal skills within the workplace and prepare students for success in their full-time careers Qualifications Current enrollment in an undergraduate Civil or Environmental Engineering program Must be fit for duty to perform field activities in inclement weather/heat Willingness to travel for out-of-town projects Ability to work flexible hours and have an awareness for safety AutoCAD experience a plus Prior internship and/or design experience a plus Local candidates preferred Applicants must be legally authorized to work for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc.
