Job Description
- Position Summary
- The Owner's Representative - Solid Waste Management will plan, review, and drive the implementation of solid waste management systems at the Richmond Hockney bioconjugation and biologics campus.
- Environmental and Sustainability Goals
- + Zero waste to landfill from routine operations + 100% of plastic waste repurposed for beneficial use; at least 90% recycled or reused + Integration of sustainability principles into packaging, materials, and waste stream design decisions + Support site-level metrics and reporting as part of the overall sustainability commitment
- Key Responsibilities
- Owner's Engineering / Design Interface
- + Represent ownership interests in waste-related design reviews with the design team and process/equipment vendors + Review and comment on process flow diagrams, waste flow maps, P&IDs, and room layouts affecting waste management
- Process Group Coordination
- + Serve as liaison with Process Design/Engineering to identify and characterize all waste streams from unit operations (bioconjugation, purification, fill/finish, lab support) + Translate process-driven waste characteristics (e.g., volume, toxicity, biohazard classification) into facility and logistics requirements
- Cytotoxic / Potent Waste Program
- + Own cytotoxic/ADC waste strategy: closed-system handling, deactivation protocols, segregated storage, HEPA/negative pressure rooms, PPE decontamination, and offsite treatment/incineration vendor selection
- BSL-2 Biological Waste Program
- + Define and validate handling, decontamination, packaging, labeling, and disposal pathways for BSL-2 biologics/lab-derived biohazardous waste, in coordination with EH&S/Biosafety
- General Solid Waste & Recycling
- + Develop, implement, and oversee non-hazardous solid waste and recycling programs (office, warehouse, construction, routine operational waste) + Establish collection points, hauler/vendor strategy, and diversion targets to support zero-waste-to-landfill goals
- Workstream Management
- + Manage the solid waste workstream including schedule, budget, milestones, and interdependencies with other process groups If you are passionate about sustainable operations, facility project management, and have expertise in waste management within technically demanding environments, we welcome your application!
