Locate & Damages Prevention Coordinator:

SJWD Water District is seeking a Locate & Damages Prevention Coordinator to join our team! This position plays an important role in protecting our water infrastructure by managing utility locate requests, coordinating damage prevention efforts, and supporting the investigation and resolution of damages to the water distribution system. The Coordinator also serves as a lead worker for Locate Technician(s), providing daily work coordination, technical guidance, training, and support. What You'll Do Manage, prioritize, and assign SC 811 utility locate tickets Perform and review accurate utility locating and marking Coordinate activities and schedules with utilities, contractors, and property owners Perform disinfection, pressure testing, and sampling at contractor construction sites Investigate, document, and track damages to water infrastructure Coordinate necessary repairs with Distribution and Operations staff Communicate professionally with contractors, utility representatives, property owners, and the public Provide day-to-day direction, training, and technical guidance to Locate Technician(s) Promote safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and effective damage prevention Perform related duties as assigned What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Initiative and ability to obtain a CDL and Distribution License D within one year Knowledge of utility locating practices and equipment is beneficial Ability to read and interpret GIS maps and construction drawings Strong communication and documentation skills Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and exercise sound judgment Working Conditions This is a hands-on position that requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Candidates must be able to lift and carry tools and equipment and be available to respond to after-hours emergencies when needed. Leadership Responsibilities The Locate & Damages Prevention Coordinator provides day-to-day direction and technical oversight to Locate Technician(s). This is a lead-worker role and does not include formal authority to hire, terminate, or discipline employees.
