Job Title Non-Ferrous Coordinator Job Summary The Non-Ferrous Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the receipt, sorting, processing, inventory management, and shipment of non-ferrous metals within the recycling facility. This role ensures material accuracy, quality control, safety compliance, and efficient workflow while supporting production goals, customer service, and profitability. Key Responsibilities Operations & Material Management Coordinate daily non-ferrous metal operations including sorting, grading, and processing of materials such as aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, and specialty alloys Ensure incoming and outgoing materials are accurately identified, weighed, graded, and documented Maintain organization of non-ferrous inventory and yard storage areas Prepare materials for shipment to downstream consumers or mills Quality & Compliance Inspect materials for quality, contamination, and proper grade classification Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and environmental regulations Follow all safety procedures related to equipment operation and material handling Production & Coordination Work closely with scale operators, yard staff, equipment operators, and sales teams to ensure smooth material flow Assist in scheduling shipments and coordinating logistics Support continuous improvement efforts to increase recovery, efficiency, and profitability Documentation & Reporting Accurately complete paperwork including purchase tickets, inventory logs, shipping documents, and reports Track non-ferrous yields, losses, and variances Assist with audits and inventory reconciliations Provide support to commercial team for PO/SO entry. Address questions related to material grades, pricing, and acceptance standards Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent Knowledge of non-ferrous metals and common grades Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Basic computer skills (data entry, inventory systems, spreadsheets) Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and operate in an industrial environment Ability to work overtime and some weekends Preferred Previous experience in metals recycling or scrap processing Forklift, loader, or other heavy equipment certification Understanding of ISRI specifications and non-ferrous market requirements Skills & Competencies Strong material identification and grading skills Safety-focused mindset Effective communication and teamwork Time management and multitasking abilities Problem-solving and decision-making skills Physical Requirements Regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting Exposure to noise, dust, and outdoor elements Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots) A career with Sims provides you with the opportunity to work with an organization whose goal is to be the world's safest and most responsible recycling company.
