In this position, under general direction, you will perform routine street sweeping operations for vehicle and pedestrian safety, to keep our streets clean, and to reduce air and water pollution by preventing trash, sand, salt, and other pollutants from entering and plugging our storm water system. Performs light manual labor and equipment operation for the repair, maintenance and construction of storm drain systems. Keeps equipment clean and in good working order. Learns and adheres to city safety standards.Essential Functions:

Perform routine street cleaning operations for vehicle and pedestrian safety, to keep our streets clean, and to reduce air and water pollution by preventing trash, sand, salt, and other pollutants from entering and plugging our storm water system. Clean debris from ditches, culverts and creek beds; collect and haul trash, debris, dirt, sand and gravel to designated disposal sites. Participate in snow removal operations including removal of snow and ice from roadways, pedestrian areas, and parks as directed. Operate a single or tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander; applying chemicals, abrasives, and other ice control products. Install and maintain traffic control devices for construction work zone safety. Maintain knowledge of MUTCD regulations. Operate a wide variety of equipment including but not limited to: dump trucks, water trucks, backhoes, street sweepers, snowplows, front-end loaders, skid steer and related attachments. Perform daily equipment safety and maintenance checks. Operate small power equipment including backpack blowers, weed trimmers, pressure washers, and portable generators. Handle inquiries from and situations with members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner. Report complaints to supervisory personnel immediately. Train lower level Street Cleaning, Street Workers, and seasonal employees. Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance including daily pre-trip and post-vehicle inspections. Keep equipment clean and in good working condition. When assistance is needed in Trash and Recycle Division drive automated sanitation/recycling collection truck collecting common trash and recyclable material from residential and commercial containers.Core Beliefs:

Requires ability to perform manual labor. Strenuous physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds; frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer, and use of hands to handle small parts; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens. Requires driving and walking during inclement weather. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.Job Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience performing public works operations, construction and maintenance work in the assigned area of responsibility preferred. Knowledge of standard construction practices relating to transportation and storm drain systems. This position is subject to non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current.): Current Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver's license is preferred; must be able to obtain within 90 days of start date; must have acceptable driving record.
