Veteran Preference Summary:

This class of employee performs highly skilled work in the operation of heavy and complex mobileearth- moving and over the road tractor trailer equipment. The work involves responsibility for the safeand efficient operation of the equipment assigned in the semi-difficult and most difficultlandfill/recycling operations. Operates tractor trailer, pan, dozier, grader, back hoe, garbage truck, forklift and bob cat in the loading, disposal, transfer and general operation of the landfill/recycle operation.

Employee is under the supervision of the Landfill Director or Landfill Foreman.

Responsibilities:

Operates tractor/trailer, both on road and off road, in landfill/recycle operations. Operates heavy dozier, grader or pan at the landfill/recycling site. Operates backhoe, garbage truck, fork lift and bob cat in the recycle and transfer stationoperations. Cleans, inspects and performs minor repair and adjustments to assigned equipment. Performs manual labor associated with equipment usage. Any related work as to landfill/recycle operations. Serve as back up attendant at scale house. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Progressively responsible experience in the operation of varied heavy equipment in landfill/recycleoperations. Any combination of education, training and experience which provide the followingknowledge, skills and abilities: Thorough knowledge of the general practices of safe and efficient operations and care of avariety both off road and over the road equipment and landfill/recycle equipment. Through knowledge of the laws and county regulations pertaining to the operation ofequipment. Ability to safely operate the equipment under all types of weather conditions and on roughground. Ability to make minor repairs to the equipment and to assist in general repairs. Ability to understand and follow moderately complex verbal and written instructions. Ability to perform in the physical work related to the job. Highly skilled in the operation of heavy, complex equipment, as well as off road and over theroad equipment. Knowledge of landfill operations. Ability to obtain and maintain landfill certification. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, coworkers, military personnel, elected and appointed officials and members.

Qualifications:

Possess and maintenance of a valid Florida CDL class A driver license. Prior experience in the Equipment Operator II class, Mechanic II class or related experience. Skill in the operation of various medium, heavy and moderately complex equipment. High School Diploma or GED. Employer conducts background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record check.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to sit, stand,walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch,talk or hear, and lift up to 50 lbs. Acceptable vision (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without correction). Ability to work under stress with time constraints. Work is performed in a normal office atmosphere, and outside with exposure to all elements ofnature. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employeeencounters while performing the essential function of this job. While performing the duties forthis job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic orcaustic chemicals, and explosives; will regularly be required to be exposed to outdoor weatherconditions.
