Job Description The Waste Technician is responsible for managing the waste needs of the laboratory, ensuring the safe and proper disposal of all waste materials and client samples in compliance with OHSA and other regulatory standards. The Waste Technician is responsible for following all health and safety procedures and promoting a safe working environment throughout department and the laboratory. Oversees the waste management of the laboratory, ensuring safe and proper disposal of all waste materials including, but not limited to lab waste and client samples. Follows procedures and protocols for waste management and chemical handling; including but not limited to, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste Collects waste materials from each laboratory and prepares waste for proper disposal on a routine basis, while adjusting waste pick-ups based on the needs of the laboratory Maintains record of all hazardous materials on-site; verifies and classifies hazardous waste for disposal Manages upkeep and cleanliness of waste department that meets and exceeds regulatory inspection standards to ensure a safe, clean work environment Performs regular safety walkthroughs daily to assess waste needs of the lab Proactively communicates with local management to address any waste concerns/issues as needed Coordinates waste pick-up with the appropriate vendors based on hazardous category Obtains certifications required for waste management, ensuring all certifications remain current and are renewed on-time Assists the Sample Management department with kit prep, shipping/receiving, and log-in as needed Adheres to lab and sample management SOPs to ensure that proper sampling handling procedures are followed May assist with facilities maintenance as needed Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications Education / Experience /
Background:
High School Diploma required Hazardous waste experience preferred Knowledge / Skills /
Abilities:
Ability to act in a professional manner at all times Strong team player Ability to effectively follow direction Ability to work in a changing job environment Required Certification / Licenses /
Training:
A valid Driver's License 40-hour
