Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this job is to operate complex or specialized equipment to construct and maintain facilities, adjacent terrain, and landfill sites.

Essential Job Functions:

Operates a variety of motorized equipment on landfill sites. Handles the maintenance of material piles with loader in addition to operating open working face at beginning of workday and operating push to compactor on working face throughout day. Performs general labor tasks utilizing power tools associated with material placement, compaction, general carpentry, trash, and debris removal, excavating material with excavator. Loads leachate tanker at leachate pump station. Hauls several types of materials with off road dump truck from location of landfill to another landfill location on site. Continuous operations of equipment when cutting grass with large tractor and batwing mower. Grades slopes with turn around areas with grading dozer equipment. Must use additional high functioning machinery or equipment as needed for the daily operation of the landfill. Performs other duties as assigned. Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum qualifications): High school diploma or GED with four years of work experience and two years supervisory experience required; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job. Possession of a Class A or B Commercial License valid in the state of Maryland is required. Subject to oncall 24 hours a day Physical requirements and working environment: Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, hearing, seeing,and repetitive motion. Must be able to exert over fifty pounds of force occasionally, or up to thirty. pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels with those for heavy work. Must be able to endure high heat conditions and subfreezing temperatures. Must be able to work in tight and closed spaces for extended periods of time. Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments. Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor settings, exposed to varying weather conditions.

Other:

May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others.
