Position Summary The Recycling Technician (Sorter) plays a critical role in the safe and efficient operation of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This position is responsible for manually separating recyclable materials on processing lines to ensure material quality, protect downstream equipment, and support overall production goals. Recycling Technicians are expected to work safely, remain alert, and maintain consistent quality standards in a fast-paced industrial environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manually sort recyclable materials (paper, cardboard, plastics, metals, and other commodities) from conveyor belts in accordance with facility standards. Remove contaminants, non-conforming materials, and prohibited items to maintain product quality and protect equipment. Identify and safely remove hazardous or unsafe materials and immediately notify supervisors when such materials are encountered. Monitor line conditions and communicate issues such as jams, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to appropriate personnel. Maintain clean and orderly work areas, including sorting stations, walkways, and surrounding areas. Follow all facility safety rules and procedures, including PPE requirements, lockout/tagout awareness, and housekeeping standards. Support production goals by maintaining consistent sorting accuracy and pace. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall facility operations. Required Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Legally authorized to work in the United States. Ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial environment. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and background check. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in recycling, manufacturing, warehouse, or other industrial environments. Familiarity with recyclable materials and contamination standards. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Work Environment & Schedule Work is performed in an active material recovery facility with exposure to noise, dust, odors, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. Position may require working indoors and occasionally outdoors, depending on facility layout. Must be able to work assigned shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed to meet operational demands.
