Job Description
Recycling Operator Pay:
$27.33/hourLocation:
Portland, Maine Schedule:
Full‑time, Non‑Exempt ecomaine is seeking a reliable, safety‑focused Recycling Operator to support daily recycling operations by sorting materials, operating equipment, and keeping production running smoothly. This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑paced industrial environment with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to Maine's sustainability efforts. What You'll Do- Sort and process recyclable materials.
- Operate balers, conveyors, front end loaders, forklifts, crushers, and other equipment.
- Maintain logs, documentation, and equipment records.
- Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized.
- Follow all safety rules, procedures, and Job Safety Analyses.
- Support unexpected cleanup, plowing, or coverage needs as required.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, vendors, buyers, and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned. What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class C driver's license and insurability under company policy.
- Experience in recycling, waste handling, or industrial operations preferred.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
- Ability to recognize and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or operational issues.
- Strong decision‑making, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a high‑productivity team.
- Ability to read and follow safety rules, material specifications, and written instructions.
- Experience operating plant equipment is a plus. Additional Requirements
- Pre‑placement physical and lifting assessment required.
