Job Description

UTILITY TECHNICIAN

City of Hart | Full-Time | UWUA Local 465 | $37.25/hour

• The City of Hart is seeking a skilled, hands-on Utility Technician to join its Public Works team. This is a diverse position supporting the City's Public Works, Water, Sewer, Wastewater, and Electric operations and is ideal for someone with strong mechanical ability who enjoys equipment operation, utility work, construction, troubleshooting, and working outdoors. Essential Duties Diagnose, maintain, and repair City vehicles, trucks, heavy equipment, and small equipment. Operate excavators, loaders, backhoes, tractors, dump trucks, and related equipment. Assist with water, sewer, wastewater, electric, street, stormwater, and other utility projects. Assist with wastewater treatment plant operations, including equipment inspections, sampling, lab work, cleaning, maintenance, and mechanical repairs. Assist Hart Energy with water testing, meter reading, equipment inspections, maintenance, and other utility operations. Perform excavation, grading, trenching, pipe installation, repair, and site restoration. Perform welding, fabrication, mechanical repair, and preventative maintenance. Inspect, test, maintain, and perform minor repairs on City-owned diesel generators and related equipment. Assist with snow removal, emergency response, stand-by, weekend, and overtime assignments. Perform other related duties consistent with the position. Minimum Qualifications At least two years of experience in mechanical/heavy equipment repair, construction, excavation, utilities, or a closely related field. Experience operating heavy equipment. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills. Michigan Class B CDL with air brakes. Ability to perform physical outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge or experience with wastewater treatment plant operations, equipment, processes, and routine maintenance. Municipal water, wastewater, electric, or public works experience. Welding and fabrication experience. Commercial Pesticide Applicator certification. Licensing & Certifications The successful candidate must obtain and maintain licenses and certifications designated by the City for assigned duties, including applicable water and/or wastewater certifications. The City pays approved training, testing, and renewal costs for required licenses and certifications. Qualifying certifications receive additional hourly compensation in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. Schedule & Compensation Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Weekend, overtime, emergency response, and stand-by work may be required.

Starting rate:

$37.25/hour, plus excellent City benefits, overtime opportunities, and contractual certification increases.
