Job Description

Responsible for all aspects of the City Wastewater System, to include maintenance, daily operations, quality customer service and records management. Responsibility to include other maintenance at all city facilities, assisting the building, parks, other public works departments and other duties as assigned. The cleaning, inspection, maintenance and construction of the wastewater collection system and the wastewater treatment facility. Perform various weekly and monthly inspections. Attend City meetings as requested Snow removal and application of salt, sand and/or similar ice prevention materials. Public Works maintenance tasks and operations including manual work with hand tools. Some weekends, evenings and holidays are required Respond to emergency conditions including but not limited to snowstorms, flooding, downed trees, electrical outages, sewer backups, sanitary sewer overflows, etc. Minor repairs and preventative maintenance services on equipment. Performs related work as required. Minimum High School Diploma or GED required. Valid Missouri Driver's license. MODNR wastewater certification desired but may be provided by the city through various trainings. Ability to perform strenuous outdoor work. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in written form Perform a variety of skilled labor tasks (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, landscaping, painting, concrete, vehicle maintenance and minor repair, etc.) Perform a variety of semi-skilled labor tasks (street repairs, street sign installs, snow/ice removal, storm sewer line repairs and replacement, catch basin/drop inlet repair, wastewater line and manhole repair and replacement, etc.) Operate equipment (motor vehicle, manual tools, power tools, jackhammer, concrete saw, chain saw, tamper, mower, weed sprayer, snowplow, salt spreader, etc.) Skills in maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment While performing the duties of the job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions mostly during daylight hours but occasionally during night-time hours. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme summer heat, extreme winter cold, wet and/or humid conditions and outdoor airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and moderate in the field but during the use of some tools and operation of heavy equipment the noise level may be high. Occupational safety standards must be observed at all times regarding hearing, vision and other protections when utilizing equipment. Assists other city employees and departments as needed. Portable wood and/or metal ladders Flammable and combustible liquids Confined spaces General requirements for use, care and limitations of personal protective equipment (PPE) Eye and face protection due to potential exposure to flying objects, impact and other hazards Occupational head protection due to the possible impact to the head from objects, electricity and other hazards (required only when hazards are present or are likely to be present Hand protection Machines and/or equipment which could accidentally become energized (lockout/tagout) Handling of material and supplies Woodworking equipment Abrasive wheels Hand and portable tools Guarding of tools Jack stands Oxygen fuel gas welding and cutting Arc welding and cutting Human blood, feces, urine and/or other potentially infectious materials Hazardous chemicals As per the collective bargaining agreement and the City of St. Clair personnel manual Position is entry-level, paid hourly based on qualifications and non-exempt for overtime compensation. Position is eligible for all City benefits.
