Job Description

Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply for the Collections System Operator 1 job currently open in the Sewer Maintenance Division. This position is open until filled. Starting rate effective 7/1/2026 is $20.91/ hour. Starting rate with CDL effective 7/1/2026 is $22.86/ hour.
JOB DUTIES
Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled to skilled work in the maintenance of sewerage lines, operates a high-pressure vacuum truck used in the cleaning of wastewater lines; investigates the location of wastewater lines, taps, manholes and various connected equipment; uses standard hand tools and power-driven equipment for the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County. Also uses specialized techniques and knowledge in televising sewer lines to locate leaks and stoppages. Work involves operating a variety of vehicles and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of sewerage lines. Work also involves performing manual labor tasks while not operating equipment. Physical strength and endurance are required to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, possibly in adverse weather and working conditions. Employees are subject to OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens. Initiative and independence of action are required while operating equipment at the work site. Reports to the SS Maintenance Supervisor.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
