Solid Waste Supervisor The City of Norfolk is seeking a reliable and hardworking individual to join our team as a Solid Waste Operator. This position performs semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the City's Waste Transfer Station and plays a key role in ensuring safe and efficient waste handling. Salary $4,230 $5,797 per month Key Responsibilities- Supervise and assist with inspection of incoming waste to ensure compliance with landfill regulations
- Operate computerized truck scales for weighing materials from municipal, commercial, and public users
- Operate heavy equipment including hydraulic boom, pay loader, skid steer, and tractors
- Assist with loading, compacting, and transporting waste to the landfill
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on trucks, trailers, and equipment
- Maintain facility cleanliness, including litter control, mowing, and snow removal
- Enforce safety rules and site regulations
- Assist customers with unloading, hazardous waste, and general inquiries
- Support operations of the animal crematory as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Nebraska Driver's License required
- Ability to obtain a Nebraska Class "A" CDL with required endorsements within six months of hire
- Experience operating heavy equipment and performing mechanical maintenance preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of waste transfer operations, equipment, and safety practices
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in various weather conditions
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools
- Ability to interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team Application Information First review of applications will begin May 11.
