Department of Health Salary Range:

$70,390 This is a professional public health position involving responsibility for performing inspections and investigations and carrying out specialized environmental and public health activities. Extensive field work is required. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher ranking Sanitarian or Engineer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EITHER:

(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree with 30 credit hours in the natural sciences, of which not more than twelve (12) credit hours may be in the applied sciences;

OR:

(B) Five (5) years of full time paid work experience as a public health technician.

NOTE:

The experience in (A) and (B) above must be deemed acceptable by the Commissioner of Health. The term natural science shall mean a science such as biology, chemistry or physics that deals with the objects, phenomena, or laws of nature and the physical world. It shall include all physical and biological sciences. The term applied science shall mean science based courses in environmental technology, sanitation technology, medical technology, public health, infection control or food science.

NOTE:

Your degree or college credit must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

An incumbent appointed to this position must complete a training course approved by the New York State Health Department leading to certification as a Public Health Sanitarian issued by the Division of Environmental Health Services of the Duchess County Health Department in accordance with Section 11.111 of the New York State Sanitary Code. Possession of a valid Driver License to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at time of application and to maintain position.
