EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I/II

• LANDFILL Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class.

Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

DEFINITION

To operate light and heavy Landfill equipment in support of the Ponca City Landfill and related operations; and to perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from supervisory or management staff.

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS

• Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions :

1. Operate a variety of light to heavy Landfill equipment in support of a variety of Landfill activities. 2. Maintain maintenance logs and records. 3. Perform preventive maintenance on heavy and light equipment as required. 4. Perform work activities according to safe work practices and procedures. 5. Understanding and following oral and written instructions. 6. Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 7. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 8. Maintaining physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: Walking, standing, bending, kneeling or climbing for extended periods of time. Operating assigned equipment and vehicles. 9. Maintaining effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Making observations Communicating with others Operating assigned equipment and vehicles Must have acceptable attendance and the ability to work well with people. Ensure the adherence to applicable laws and regulations. Inspect incoming loads for hazardous and/or unacceptable waste. Participate in litter control. Perform building maintenance and custodial duties as required. Any specific requirements that are stated in the "offer of employment letter".

Marginal Functions :

1. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. 2. Perform a variety of general maintenance duties. 3. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of :

General operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment. Basic practices and methods used in general construction, grounds maintenance and general maintenance work.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Must have prior experience in one or more of the following:

Experience :

Operating a variety of moderate to light power-driven equipment. Performing a variety of semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks. Performing a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time in unfavorable weather condi­tions. Performing heavy manual labor. Working independently in the absence of supervision.

Training :

Formal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions :

Landfill site environment; exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment; toxic materials; waste and infectious materials; work in inclement weather conditions; work in confined spaces; work at heights.

Physical Conditions :

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing; moderate to heavy lifting; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles. Lift up to 50 pounds.

License or Certificate:

Must possess high school diploma or GED. Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement within 12 months of hire date.

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II

• LANDFILL

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of :

Operation and maintenance requirements of heavy power-driven equipment. Practices and methods used in general Construction or Landfill operations.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Must have prior experience in one or more of the following

Experience :

Minimum of 2 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment (Dozer, Scraper, Grader etc.) Minimum of 6 months cumulative experience and good working knowledge in the operation and maintenance of Landfill equipment (Dozer, Compactor, Tractor and Scraper) as a Landfill Equipment Operator I.

Training :

Formal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions :

Landfill site environment; exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment; toxic materials; waste and infectious materials; work in inclement weather conditions; work in confined spaces; work at heights.
