The Company The Waste Authority provides universal waste programs for Monroe County residents. Site Attendant - Composting Facility (full time or part time) Job Summary The Site Attendant oversees the daily operation of a composting facility by directing customers, inspecting incoming materials, maintaining site cleanliness, operating equipment when needed, and following all safety and environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities Greet customers and direct them to appropriate unloading areas. Inspect incoming loads to ensure only approved compostable materials are accepted. Reject or report prohibited or hazardous materials. Monitor traffic flow and maintain a safe work environment. Keep the facility clean and organized, including litter collection and housekeeping. Assist with compost pile management, including turning, watering, and monitoring temperatures (if required). Operate equipment such as skid steers, loaders, or forklifts (if trained and authorized). Perform routine inspections of equipment and report maintenance needs. Complete daily logs, inspection reports, and other required documentation. Follow all OSHA, environmental, and company safety policies. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Provide excellent customer service and answer questions about acceptable materials and facility procedures. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in waste management, recycling, landscaping, or construction is an asset. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks. Strong communication and customer service skills. Basic recordkeeping and organizational skills. Valid driver's license may be required. Equipment operation experience or certification is a plus. Working Conditions Outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Exposure to dust, odors, mud, insects, and noise. Weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required. Standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the workday. Preferred Skills Knowledge of composting processes and environmental regulations. Ability to identify acceptable and unacceptable waste materials. Safe equipment operation. Attention to detail and strong safety awareness. Teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
