Job description The City of Manassas Park Public Works Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Crew Worker (Sewer / Water Department). The City of Manassas Park is 2.5 square-miles, incorporated City with a general population of over 17,000. The City is mostly single family residential, with some commercial/industrial properties. The VRE (Commuter Rail Station) is within the City Center in which is growing rapidly.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The individual in this position will be responsible for performing basic work functions with special emphasis on maintaining the integrity of existing Water distribution lines and Sanitary sewer lines throughout the City.
  • Makes decisions with moderately serious impact; affects work unit and may affect other units or citizens.
  • Leads crew workers including training, assigning, and evaluating work, monitoring timely completion of work, and ensuring a safe work environment.
  • Aids coworkers to achieve task completion. May instruct or assign duties to coworkers.
  • Maintains and inspects public utility distribution components.
  • Estimates materials and determines tools, support equipment and/or other items needed for job completion. Secures needed items and transports to job site.
  • Serve as a responsible steward of City resources, and actively seeks opportunities for economies and actively prevents unnecessary losses.
  • Operates a variety of commercial grade power equipment, machinery and hand tools used in Department projects and activities, which may include, but not limited to pick-up trucks, pick-up trucks with snowplows, dump trucks, Backhoe, rubber Tire Loader, Skis Loader, Vactor truck, trailers, mowers, weed trimmers, jack hammer, chain saw, chippers, small tractors, snow blower, shovels, rakes, and other various tools.
  • Performs Snow Removal operations. Responds to other Emergency Operations.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning shop area and work areas.
  • Performs administrative or operating tasks such as completing work orders, forms, and accurately records/enters data in computers, assist with preparing budgets, controlling expenditures, and compiling reports.
  • Must possess normal attention span requiring short periods of concentration for accurate results. Must be able to maintain concentration in high-pressure circumstances.
  • May be required to assist other City Departments as necessary.
  • Adheres to established Safety procedures and rules.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment/random drug screenings and background check.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational training.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License (Air brakes & Tanker Endorsement) with a minimum of 2 years driving/operating Commercial vehicle's experience.
  • Attend training courses as required by the City of Manassas Park (e.
g., CPR, AED, First Aid, Intermediate Traffic Control, etc..).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to work in extreme hot/cold temperatures, dust/pollen, extreme noise levels and noxious odors.
  • Requires medium to heavy work involving exerting 50+ pounds of force on frequent basis.
  • Must be available to work day and/or nights, weekends, and holidays for emergency operations.
