Job Description
Weekend Support Staff for Child with Autism Phoenix Facilitation of California LLC Redondo Beach, CA Job Details Part-time Up to $35 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications Assisting with ADLs Direct support Performing background checks Home health Patient personal care assistance Full Job Description Please note: If you do not answer the questions associated with this advertisement, your application will not be considered. O. is an 11-year-old with a variety of disabilities, including autism. His parents are looking for someone to support him at home and in the community (Redondo Beach area, 90278) on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) from for 8 to 10 hours per day (16-20 hours per week). You will be assisting O. with daily activities as well as supervising him in the community and going to fun places; any travel and entrance costs you incur will be paid for. Due to O.'s disabilities, he receives funding from the Harbor Regional Center (https://www.harborrc.org/) to meet his needs and for this service and staff. He is part of the Self-Determination Program (https://www.harborrc.org/services/self-determination-program-sdp/), which is why his family can select their own staff. Specifically, you will be hired by a Financial Management Service (FMS), Mains'l, as a W-2 employee paid hourly at a rate of up to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience; payment will be twice per month. You must be able to pass a background check. The family will be your Employer of Record and who you will report on your taxes. Please see below to learn more about O. and determine if you are the person O. and his family need! O.
IS:
- Very sweet (when he wants to be) & affectionate. You need to be okay with him touching you!
- A foodie (He's a connoisseur of crunchy foods like chips & crackers)
- Determined (sometimes to a fault) & a hard worker
- Interested in learning new things & curious
- Very energetic, so you should be too, because you need to keep up with him (or be prepared to clean up after him.)
- Relaxed and "chill" at times (and he needs that down time!)
- Funny, with a good sense of humor.
YOU NEED TO
- Be fun! O. is fun and it will be better for both of you if you enjoy being with him.
- Be quick on your feet; O. is fast on his and sometimes will elope/wander away, and engages in challenging behaviors including fecal smearing, so he must have constant supervision to ensure his safety.
- Be flexible and patient, while remaining firm and giving clear directions. He responds best to people who aren't hovering over him, but who are available to persistently give him positive attention. This is not a good job for you if you want to be on your phone!
- Be calm and don't raise your voice, while remaining firm and consistent in what you ask him to do. O. has a lot of adults in his life making demands of him; he doesn't need an entertainer to push him into too many activities.
- Be organized and prepared for each day
- Be comfortable, prepared, and willing to help manage challenging behaviors, including self-injurious behaviors (hitting himself), aggression towards caretakers, fecal smearing, inappropriate undressing, crying & shrieking, and self-stimulatory behaviors.
O. NEEDS
- Constant supervision.
- Hands-on assistance with personal care, toileting, and other daily living needs.
- To follow a routine. He has his own way that he wants the day to go. He likes to go on short walks around the area and engage in activities at home.
- Praise when he does well. He might not show outside appreciation, but he "takes it in." High fives and verbal reinforcement are "cool" for him.
- You to not "criticize" him, which he doesn't respond well to.
- Redirection when he gets distracted from a task or has a hard time transitioning out of a preferred activity. He needs people working with him to be patient.
- You to be flexible in the way you communicate with him.
