SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Installs, inspects, repairs, troubleshoots and recognizes the cause of faulty equipment and makes repairs on large systems th provide a variety of air conditioning functions such as heing, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering and circulion for large office buildings with various electronic equipment. Repairs domestic and commercial refrigerion and air conditioning units and systems, such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerors, freezers, ice-makers, wer fountains, self contained and remote compressor units, and other equipment of comparable complexity to maintain proper humidity and circulion. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communices positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for sisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulions and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupional illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immedie supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. May be required to travel for temporary duty assignment. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Must have knowledge of refrigerion cycles of a variety of commercial and industrial systems to loce and check elements such as those which control low side and high side pressure, temperures of the cooling units, temperures of liquid and suction lines and the running time of various mechanisms. Skill to determine the proper kind and type of parts and equipment needed for installion or repair in planning and completing work orders. May work from building plans, shop sketches or blueprints. Must know principles and theories of air conditioning and refrigerion cycles, he transfer laws, use of refrigerant tables, calculion of airflow and pressure-temperure characteristics for different systems. Skill in locing leaks by visual and audible examinion of equipment components and how to loce trouble before dismantling. Must be familiar with the more compliced motor controls such as sealed motors, pressure controls, thermostic motor controls (remote and double remote), full and semiautomic defrosting controls, relays and other controls to protect against overheing. Must know characteristics of compressors, such as gear, reciprocing, centrifugal or rotary pump and a variety of refrigerant controls such as those with low and high pressure side flos, automic thermostic expansion valves, capillary or choke types and those based on volume or quantity changes. Must know how to dismantle, repair and reassemble units such as pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers and evaporors. Skill to overhaul valves by adjusting or replacing gaskets, springs, flos, diaphragms, valve fittings, seals and couplings. Skill to align

motors and flywheel drives. May be required to perform electrical work to include completion of needed repairs to installed systems and rearrange and hook up items such as outlets, switches, light fixtures, regulors and circuit breakers. Must be able to install or replace pipes and ducts where the areas to be air-conditioned are a considerable distance from the compressors. Must be able to qualify for a government motor vehicle operors permit. Must possess a Universal Technician certificion issued by an approved certificion program.

RESPONSIBILITY

Using personal knowledge and experience plans testing procedures, determines proper kind and type of parts and equipment needed for large projects; installs and repairs a variety of systems independently. Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment used on a scheduled basis.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Hoists, holders and pulleys are opered when removing units such as large compressors, condensers and chillers. Works from ladders, scaffolding and plforms and in hard-to-reach places. May be required to stoop, stretch, crawl, climb, bend and kneel for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed indoors and outdoors and is subject to sudden temperure changes. May work on rooftops, in tic spaces and cramped areas with low overheads. Uncomfortable protective clothing may be required. May be subject to large amounts of escaping gases. Additional informion
