Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Dorchester County Public Schools is currently seeking a Cafeteria Food Service Manager. This position is located at Hurlock Elementary School. DCPS is looking for a proven or potential leader who seeks to foster a well-maintained, inviting and nutritious environment for students and staff. Cafeteria Managers work ten (10) months and have health and leave benefits.
Please Note:
Cafeteria Manager assignments are determined following any lateral transfers of existing Cafeteria Managers.
DUTIES:
Direct staff in food production and serving, cashiering, facilities cleaning, pre- and post-service food storage, and related activities. Place orders for food and all other food related items. Ensure the overall cleanliness of the kitchen equipment and facilities. Maintain records of purchases, inventories, expenditures, donated foods, purchased foods, student participation, and income. Make recommendations, as appropriate, that contribute to the efficiency of the school's food service operation. Perform related duties as required by the Food Service Manager and school principal, including duties at special meal functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalency. Certificate in Safe Food Handling is required and can be obtained prior to employment, or during the first year of employment. Formal training in food service operations is preferred. Demonstrated experience in school and/or commercial cafeteria management and food preparation. Must have the ability to direct and supervise personnel. Possess Computer Skills with understanding of Windows Operating System. (Knowledge of office software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook a plus). Possess mathematical skills and ability to use office equipment. Must be familiar with the operation and basic maintenance of food service equipment, stoves, freezers, dishwashing equipment, steam kettles, etc. Ability to manually move, shelve, stack, or raise from floor to table or serving area heavy objects (pots, pans, trays, and food supplies) weighing up to 35 pounds. Must have good organization, communication, and public relation skills.
