Amherst College invites applications for the Casual Event Support position. The Casual Event Support position is part-time and casual with no benefits. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $20-$22 per hour. The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. The Casual Event Support position supports the efforts of Special Services and Custodial Services to set up special events, move offices, and provide general trucking both on-campus and off-campus. This position is the secondary contact person responsible for obtaining detailed information regarding special events and office moves from a diverse set of customers. The person in this position is also responsible for inputting the information into the facility's work order system as well as tracking the materials and hours. This position utilizes a flexible work schedule with hours and days varying week to week. This is a casual position capable of working 19 hours weekly. Our work is central to student life, and their needs occur at various times throughout the day, week, and year; in such cases, a flexible schedule with extended shift times may be required. This person must be able to work weekends and flexible hours to support special events or last-minute requests.Summary of Responsibilities:
Perform tasks related to special event set-ups, office moves, and other trucking support duties as assigned. This includes but is not limited to transporting and setting up tables, chairs, and other event-related materials. Effectively interacts with customers to obtain more detailed information. Perform general custodial duties necessary during office moves and when short-staffed. Maintaining storage spaces and monitoring equipment, which includes Amherst College vehicles, to ensure they are kept in good working order. Maintaining an accurate inventory of chairs, tables, hand-trucks, dollies, and specialized tools. Effectively collaborate with colleagues to ensure a respectful, inclusive climate.Qualifications:
Required High School Diploma or equivalent General knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair Basic knowledge of operating hand tools is necessary for assembling and moving items Basic familiarity with computer usage, including email and the internet Strong customer service, organizational, and time-management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, and multitask when priorities change frequently Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions Successful completion of required reference and background checks An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test Valid driver's license to drive college vehicles to team competition when necessary.
