Job Description

The Diocese of Scranton is seeking an innovative educator to lead Notre Dame Jr./Sr. High School as principal beginning the 2026-2027 school year. The principal will be the instructional, spiritual, and building leader, responsible for the effective operation of this Catholic educational institution. The principal will serve as the primary agent for creating an environment that fosters academic excellence, Catholic faith formation, and vitality Responsibilities of the Principal The principal is responsible for the overall spiritual and academic success of the faculty, staff, and student body, as well as managing, guiding, and supporting programs for student involvement through extra-curricular and athletic opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates the vision for the faith-filled school environment Oversees the implementation of a rigorous, academically excellent program Provides professional development opportunities for faculty and staff Evaluates the performance of teachers, faculty, staff, and outside vendors Evaluates and provides guidance to the administrative staff Meets with faculty monthly to discuss operations, goals, and needs Keeps current with the trends in curriculum development Conducts meetings with department chairpersons regarding relevancy of course offerings Observes and evaluates the teaching/learning process by visiting classrooms and encouraging innovation Meets with parents and school families, as needed Reviews and approves the master schedule and teachers' and students' schedules as prepared by the administrative and school counselor Reviews and approves all examination schedules Participates actively in the recruitment program Interviews and registers new students; rosters students; requests transfer records and shares information with the director of guidance and all departments Handles requests for transfer and transfer procedures and shares that information with faculty Assumes specific duties assigned by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents The Principal reports directly to the Superintendent of Catholic Schools/Secretary for Catholic Education. Qualifications A practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. A Master's degree in educational administration or a related field. Pennsylvania Principal's Certificate, or equivalent out-of-state certificate Contemporary knowledge of academics, including curriculum development, professional development, and technology; Track record of academic excellence across all aspects of curricula; Ability to multitask and meet deadlines; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all constituencies.• State certification and applicants must be in compliance with
ACTS 34/151/114
Guidelines and provide all clearances.
