Driver FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Responsible for safely transporting and delivering company products to customers in accordance with company policies and applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position ensures accurate delivery documentation, maintains vehicle safety and compliance, and provides professional customer service while representing the company. Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are representative of the position. Other duties may be assigned. Transport deliveries locally or over the road according to delivery manifest in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with company policies and all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations. Follow assigned delivery schedules and coordinate efficient deliveries by applying knowledge of customer schedules, traffic conditions, peak delivery times, and alternate routes. Safely load, secure, and unload packaged ice and related products in accordance with proper handling procedures and cargo securement standards. Obtain and maintain proper delivery authorization and pickup documentation and submit all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain professional interactions with customers during deliveries and represent the company in a courteous and professional manner at all times. Perform required DOT pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections using company inspection checklists and report any defects, damage, or maintenance issues immediately. Maintain accurate Hours of Service records using Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) or other approved logging systems in compliance with FMCSA regulations. Maintain accurate delivery records, route documentation, and receipts related to trip expenses as required by company policy. Perform basic vehicle care including maintaining a clean vehicle interior and exterior and monitoring vehicle condition during operation. Maintain company fuel cards and ensure all required vehicle documentation, including insurance, registration, and permits, are present and current in the vehicle. Immediately report accidents, vehicle damage, mechanical issues, traffic violations, or safety concerns to management according to company procedures. Operate warehouse and delivery equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and hand trucks in a safe and responsible manner. Follow company safety policies, food safety procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and sanitation standards when handling packaged ice and performing delivery duties. Comply with all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations including driver qualification requirements, Hours of Service rules, and drug and alcohol testing requirements. Perform other related duties as assigned by management. Qualifications To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Language Skills Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance procedures, and delivery documentation. Ability to complete routine reports and delivery records. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors. Mathematical Skills Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to apply these calculations when handling product quantities, verifying deliveries, and working with common units of measurement such as weight, volume, distance, and monetary values. Reasoning Skills Ability to apply practical problem-solving skills in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and follow instructions provided in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to make sound decisions while performing delivery, safety, and operational tasks. Computer Skills Basic computer or mobile device skills required to complete delivery documentation and use company systems. Experience with invoicing, routing, or inventory software is preferred. Education and Experience High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) preferred equivalent. Previous delivery, driving, warehouse, or distribution experience is beneficial but not required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Certificates and Licenses Valid driver's license required. Must meet company vehicle insurance requirements. Must meet all applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements if operating vehicles are subject to DOT regulation Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MRV) in accordance with company insurance standards Must maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate when operating vehicles requiring DOT medical certification Equipment Operated Employees in this position may be required to operate the following equipment in the course of normal duties: Forklift Pallet jack (manual or electric) Hand truck / delivery dolly Company delivery vehicle or truck Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and management. Basic reading and writing skills are sufficient to complete delivery of documentation and reports. Basic math skills for counting products, verifying quantities, and completing delivery records. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage time effectively and complete deliveries according to schedule. Ability to organize delivery routes and maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently while following company procedures and safety standards. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or operate equipment, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently bends, stoops, kneels, crouches, and climbs in and out of delivery vehicles. The employee must be able to communicate effectively and to interact with customers and respond to operational or safety signals. The employee must regularly lift, carry, and move products weighing up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally handle heavier loads with appropriate equipment or assistance. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, and cold environments such as refrigerated or ice production areas. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions and cleaning or sanitation chemicals used in normal facility operations. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate but may occasionally increase due to equipment operation.
