(CEM) Psych Registered Nurse

Job Description SUMMARY Loyal Source Government Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Registered Nurse to join our team for a critical humanitarian effort within a detention setting who will be responsible for providing comprehensive mental health care. As a mental health RN, you will be expected to adhere to established National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) standards and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment. This provides employees with the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of those in distress.

Pay:

$39.48/hr

DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

• Conduct mental health assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers
• Monitor and document patient progress, reporting significant changes to the mental health team and/or Medical Director.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse managers, custody staff, pharmacists, and the on-site medical leadership team.
• Participate in crisis intervention and provide support during psychiatric emergencies.
• Educate patients about mental health conditions, coping strategies, and medication management.
• Maintain accurate, timely, confidential medical records in accordance with legal and facility requirements.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and NCCHC standards of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; ADN accepted

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years' nursing experience required with at least 1 year of experience in a mental health setting.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. Certification in Correctional Health Care (CCHP) is preferred.

Employee Health:

Individuals employed in a detention environment are at risk for significant risk for acquiring or transmitting diseases that are preventable by vaccines. The following are highly recommended. If the employee declines or refuses to get these vaccines, the government may require a declination letter AND has the right to refuse service from healthcare providers that decline these vaccines: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Varicella, MMR, TDAP, Influenza (annually), and

COVID-19.

Employees must also provide documentation regarding history of testing for TB within the last 12 months (chest s-ray if employee has a history of latent TB) Annual TB skin test or interferon-gamma release assays (following CDC guidelines)

• Ability to manage stressful situations and react calmly in emergencies
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records systems. Ability to document clear, complete notes on paper when the EMR system is down.
• Well-developed understanding of cultural diversity
• Professionalism and sensitivity in a detention environment
• Ability to de-escalate tense situations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no supervisory responsibilities in this position Filling the role of "charge nurse" for a shift in the unit may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITION

• Work is in a detention facility. Custody / security staff are in the medical area to ensure staff safety in the event volatile situations arise.
• Color specific scrubs and sturdy walking shoes are required.
• Shifts involve days, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Supportive work environment with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds, stand, twist and sit for extended periods. Must also be able to walk over uneven gravel and dirt paths to enter the medical facility.
• Must be able to pass a Fit Test which requires a clean-shaven face or facial hair that does not interfere with the seal of an N-95 respirator.
