Job Description
Gallery One is looking for our next Ceramics Studio Manager to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in a career in the arts and project management, who loves people, is an excellent communicator, has positive team-building energy and can work independently. Purpose of Position:
This unique position oversees all aspects of the ceramics studio as part of the Community School of the Arts Program. The CSM reports to the Executive Director for evaluation and goals, works with the CSA coordinator to develop and implement a class schedule for kids and adults and works with other staff members as needed.Assignment:
Beginning immediately, this position is scheduled to work primarily at Gallery One's Ceramics Studio. Weekly hours fluctuate between 16 and 20 hours, plus additional workshop and school-age teaching opportunities.Education :
A college degree or equivalent experience.Preferred Skill Set :
Above average knowledge of ceramic production (handbuilding, wheel, etc), teaching, volunteer management experience, fluent in Microsoft Office, and customer service experience. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audiences.Qualities :
Ability to juggle multiple tasks and put people first, attention to detail and follow through, must be a team player with good communication skills, passionate about inclusivity and community Duties & ResponsibilitiesPROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND COORDINATION
In conjunction with the Executive Director and CSA Coordinator, assess ceramic program needs, develop, expand and evaluate education programs for youth and adults in ceramics studio; assist in developing and implementing relevant policies and procedures Oversee day-to-day studio operations With staff support, revise and monitor activities to determine consistency with program goals Promote equity and social justice in all areas of the position and Gallery One activitiesADMINISTRATIVE
In collaboration with volunteer coordinator, train and oversee work of volunteers and student employees in the ceramics studio Coordinate ceramic activities with other Gallery functional areas Assist in fundraising activities when needed, specifically those that are ceramics focused such as the Planter Sale and Soup Line Other duties as assignedART EDUCATION
In conjunction with CSA teaching staff, develop curriculum for multiple ceramics classes using Washington State Arts K-12 Learning Standards Coordinate, plan and teach clay art classes Teach 2 art after school classes and 2 day summer art camps (at regular hourly rate) Assess student progress, ensure students are involved in activities suited to their abilities and interests while encouraging individual development Coordinate and facilitate adult workshops and programs in clay Mentor students when requestedCERAMICS TECHNICIAN
Manage kiln firings, coordinate firing schedule with studio artists, instructors and staff. Maintain a clean and well-organized working environment. Keep accurate inventory of clay/ glazes/ equipment. Maintain and order supplies for classes and projects, etc. Mix glazes and reclaim clay as needed. Assist in keeping users informed of policies and costs. Provide health and safety guidelines to all usersPhysical Requirements :
Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 50 pounds occasionally with some studio maintenance. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as the copy machine, printer, and must be comfortable using a drill and hammer and climbing ladders. Other duties as assigned. Compensation and Benefits- 16-20 hours/week (must be available some weekends and some evenings)

Compensation:
$21.59/hour- PTO

- Regular performance and wage review
- Opportunities to contract and teach additional workshops. Compensation for contract work is $42/hr or greater
- In addition to employee benefits, the Ceramics Studio Manager receives free 24-hour studio space and unlimited firings.
