Performs patient care custodian duties and assists with nursing duties in caring for patients including psychiatric and rehabilitative patients. Performs direct and indirect patient care activities according to established policies and procedures, observes and reports changes in patient conditions and maintains a safe and clean patient and environment.JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education High school graduate or currently enrolled in final year of high school. Minimum Work Experience Previous hospital experience with acceptable references preferred.License/Certification:
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association per HMC Resuscitation Certification Requirements policy Current Tennessee State Certified Nurse's Assistant license with no restrictionsSTANDARD CORE COMPETENCES

Skills Proficiency in basic patient care procedures (vital signs, hygiene, mobility assistance). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to operate medical equipment such as (but not limited to) pulse oximeters, glucose monitors, dynamaps. Competency in infection control and PPE usage. Basic knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) documentation. Ability to respond to emergencies and assist in crisis situations. Knowledge Understanding of respiratory illnesses, and isolation protocols. Familiarity with medical terminology and hospital procedures. Knowledge of patient rights, HIPPA, compliance, and confidentiality. Awareness of standard precautions and infection prevention techniques. Proper techniques for assisting with activities of daily living (ADL) Abilities Ability to work in a high stress fast paced environment. Adaptability to rapidly changing patient conditions and protocols. Capability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely. Ability to collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians and other healthcare staff. Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills in patient care scenarios. Ability to provide compassionate patient centered care. Behavior Professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions. Empathy and patience when working with patients and families. Respect for diversity and cultural sensitivity in patient care.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides for patient's personal hygiene: gives bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves, and assists with showers. Provides for activities of daily living: assists with meals and feeds patients; ambulates, turns, and positions patients; provides fresh water and nourishment between meals. Assists the nurse with enemas, douches, non-sterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths. Performs I&O measurements, checks vital signs and weight, specimen collection, and post-mortem care. Provides for comfort needs of patients. Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees. Utilizes resources and materials in an efficient and safe manner. Maintains a safe and attractive environment for patients and co-workers; transports patients and equipment as appropriate. Promptly answers patients' call lights and requests. Reports observations of a patient to the nurse caring for the patient to ensure professional assessment. Instills confidence in the patient by maintaining a neat and attractive appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner. Shows dependability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance. Maintains good working relations among all nursing unit personnel and other hospital employees through appropriate communication.OTHER DUTIES
With specialized training, and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to assigned area. Accepts reassignment as needed to provide necessary care for all patients.PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
