Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Make a positive impact by sharing your expertise in supporting students through effective orientation and mobility instruction. This contract opportunity calls for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist to collaborate with school staff, families, and educational teams to foster independence and confidence in learners with visual impairments. Ideal candidates thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about making educational settings accessible to all students. Your specialized knowledge will contribute to meaningful growth in students' daily navigation and life skills.
Desired Qualifications:
Current certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Experience working in school settings, preferably with a range of age groups. Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, educators, and families. Creative problem-solving abilities to adapt strategies for individual student needs. Familiarity with assistive technology, mobility tools, and current best practices in the field.Key Responsibilities:
Assess students' mobility needs and develop individualized instruction plans. Provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility techniques, both on campus and within the community. Collaborate with teachers and support staff to integrate mobility goals into students' educational programs. Offer guidance, recommendations, and support to families and caregivers on safe, effective mobility. Attend IEP meetings and contribute to the development of students' educational plans. Document student progress, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with all applicable educational guidelines.
