About This Role The School Nurse ensures a healthy school environment and coordinates health services for all students in compliance with State and Federal laws and nursing standards. Responsibilities include providing care for sick and injured students, maintaining health records, performing medical procedures per provider orders, and promoting healthy practices. Supporting of the district's equity commitments as expressed in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assure timely compliance of all students in the area of health exams required for school attendance. Administer student medication as required. Train health assistant (CNA) as required. Develop and implement health accommodations and emergency plans (asthma, severe allergies, diabetes, seizure disorders, etc.) and implement treatment plans (gastrostomy tubes, tracheostomy tubes, etc.). Conduct school health service, including screening health examinations, immunizations, and conduct tests for hearing and vision. Assume responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical, vision, hearing and dental care. Collaborate with parents, school staff, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters. Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. Conduct health histories and evaluations for special education eligibility, annual reviews, three year reevaluations and 504 plans, as needed. Assume responsibility for all care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness. Visit student homes, if necessary. Participate with school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program. Contacts homes of children referred by principal. Advise on any modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students. Prepare and submit reports for the Senior Director of Student Services, Superintendent, ISBE and the State Board of Health. Authorize exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with IDPH guidance & state law on infectious and contagious diseases. Advise teachers on health matters, particularly screening for student health issues. Monitor and follow-up all student attendance issues. Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools. Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health services. Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Student Services Administration.

Candidate Qualifications:
Associates Degree, or higher Current Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of License Bachelor's Degree, preferred Professional Educator License endorsed as a School Nurse through the Illinois State Board of Education (Type 73), preferred
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the performance of light work—which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking, climbing stairs and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere. The position requires indoor and outdoor supervision during varying temperatures and climatic conditions. Apply through
