FUNCTION
Sonneborn, an HF Sinclair company, is looking to fill a role for a Chemist in it's Petrolia, Pennsylvania facility. Reporting to the Manufacturing Technology Manager, the Chemist performs all types of analyses and tests in connection with process control, process improvement, raw material evaluation and quality control in all product lines.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Uncompromising attitude towards the safe work performance and environmental impact of the organization, its employees and those who visit. Performs routine chemical analyses, tests and determinations involving the application of established laboratory methods and techniques. Assists higher level chemists by performing assigned phases of work where less evaluation or analysis may be necessary. Records results of tests and assignments and reports results to manager. Learns and develops to become able to interpret test results and determine their technical significance. Works weekend/call-out as part of a scheduled rotation with other chemists. Determine, verify, implement the appropriate analysis method and technique. Support quality programs and procedures. Identify and handle discrepancies quickly and professionally. Prepare technical reports, ISO procedures and other related documentation. Calibrate and maintain all laboratory instrumentation. Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
EXPERIENCE
Experience or working knowledge with the following analytical instrumentation: UV-Vis, HPLC, GC, XRF, FTIR Prior experience in a Chemistry lab
EDUCATIONAL LEVEL
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or closely related field GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or higher
REQUIRED SKILLS
Strong organizational skills including multi-tasking, decision making, deadline focus, prioritizing Solid foundation in analytical chemistry Excellent demonstrated problem solving skills Working knowledge of statistics and the ability to utilize them to explain findings Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills Strong attention to detail
WORK CONDITIONS
Office based, with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum processing, warehouse/plant environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and routing equipment. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.

Job conditions may require standing, and walking.
