Job Description

POSITION
Civil Construction•Project Engineer
LOCATION
Utah, Nevada•
Travel Required PAY:
Base Salary $80,000•$95,000 (Total package is competitive and comprehensive + per diem when based on project that requires travel)
JOB SUMMARY
The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager and field leadership in delivering mass earthwork and site development projects from startup through closeout. This role focuses on project controls, documentation, quantity tracking, subcontract coordination, procurement support, and cost and schedule reporting. The Project Engineer is a key connector between the office and the field and helps keep the team aligned and moving forward. This position reports to the Project Manager and is expected to travel and work onsite for the duration of assigned projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Project Manager with project setup, document control, and day to day coordination across the project team. Manage project documentation including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, transmittals, drawings, and correspondence. Track quantities, production, and installed work. Maintain clear backup for pay applications, progress reporting, and forecasting. Assist with subcontract administration including scope review, field coordination, compliance tracking, and performance follow up. Support material procurement by coordinating submittals, lead times, delivery schedules, and receiving documentation. Maintain cost coding support and job cost reporting by tracking time, quantities, tickets, and cost related documentation. Coordinate with survey and field teams on layout needs, as builts, and verification of installed work. Support quality control efforts by assisting with inspections, test documentation, and tracking corrective actions. Participate in schedule updates and look ahead planning. Help identify constraints and support recovery planning. Assist with change management by identifying potential changes early, gathering backup, and supporting pricing and documentation. Promote safe work practices and support the project safety plan through field engagement and documentation support. Support closeout by organizing turnover documents, as builts, and final project records.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent heavy civil experience will be considered. 2 to 4 years of construction experience preferred, ideally in heavy civil, mass grading, utilities, or site development. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents, with strong attention to detail. Working knowledge of basic project controls, including quantity tracking, document control, and cost awareness. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience with common construction documentation and takeoff tools is a plus. Clear written and verbal communication skills, comfortable working with field crews, subcontractors, and owners as needed. Organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced project environment. Willingness to travel and remain onsite for the duration of assigned projects.
