ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The REED Autism Services PATH Transition Program is a two-year certificate program held on Felician University's Rutherford campus. The program blends classroom learning with real-world experiences and focuses on: Community engagement Employment readiness Self-determination Personal management Students actively participate in campus life, including attending events, accessing services such as career services and counseling and wellness, and utilizing campus amenities like the computer lab and fitness center. The program is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and registered as a community vendor with the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a Classroom Instructor/Job Coach to lead a small classroom of neurodiverse students (6-8 individuals) and support their academic, social, and vocational development. This role combines classroom teaching with hands-on coaching in real-world and campus-based settings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in social work, education, special education, human development, psychology, or related field Experience working with neurodiverse individuals (e.g., autism, ADHD, ADD, anxiety, depression) in educational or counseling settings Recent high school, adult education, or college campus experience preferred Experience with classroom management, curriculum implementation, and lesson planning Ability to lead and support a small group of students with autism
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Classroom Instruction Instruct using the Learn4Independence® curriculum Implement and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning styles and needs Develop lesson plans and supplemental activities Encourage student engagement and application of skills to daily life Support students during on-campus visits and off-campus field trips Assess student progress, set goals, and adjust instructional strategies Promote independence, social engagement, and self-determination Work-Based Learning / Vocational Support Teach vocational skills using the Learn4Independence® curriculum Develop additional activities to strengthen job readiness Support students in understanding schedules, transportation, and expectations for employment Assist students in practicing vocational skills through multiple modalities Provide support at work-based learning sites as needed Assist with job searches and applications when appropriate Program Responsibilities Participate in initial training and ongoing professional development Complete daily documentation within required timeframes Follow company policies and maintain confidentiality Communicate professionally with staff, students, families, and community partners Foster a respectful, inclusive, and positive program culture Collaborate with team members and leadership; remain open to feedback Assist with administrative tasks and other duties as assigned
