Job Title:
CNC Machinist Job Description This role focuses on CNC and manual machining of large, complex parts that support agricultural, defense, and aerospace applications. You will operate advanced CNC vertical turning centers, interpret G-code programs, and work with Fanuc controllers to produce precision components to exact specifications. The position requires strong hands-on machining skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work confidently with large workpieces in an industrial machine shop environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC machines, including vertical turning centers, to machine large parts for agricultural, defense, and aerospace applications. Perform manual machining operations on large components using mills, lathes, and related equipment. Interpret and follow engineering blueprints, drawings, and specifications to produce parts to precise dimensions and tolerances. Use G-code programming to run CNC equipment and make necessary program edits at the machine control. Operate and navigate Fanuc controllers to load, adjust, and monitor CNC programs during machining operations. Perform setups, including aligning and securing large workpieces, selecting appropriate tooling, and verifying machine parameters. Measure and inspect parts using calipers and other precision measuring tools to ensure accuracy and quality. Apply GD&T principles to understand and achieve required geometric tolerances on finished parts. Monitor long cuts and extended machining cycles to ensure consistent quality and tool performance. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures in an industrial machine shop environment. Collaborate with team members and share feedback on machining processes to improve efficiency and quality. Essential Skills At least 3 years of hands-on CNC machining experience. Minimum 1 year of experience machining large parts, including components up to approximately 6000 lbs. Proficiency operating CNC vertical turning centers. Ability to navigate and operate Fanuc controllers on CNC machines. Experience working with G-code programs, including making edits at the machine control. Strong manual machining skills with mills and lathes. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Experience performing machine setup for CNC operations, including tooling and workholding. Proficiency using calipers and other precision measuring instruments for inspection. Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in machining. Ability to safely handle and machine large parts in an industrial setting. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on long cuts and extended machining cycles on large components. Experience supporting parts for agricultural, defense, or aerospace industries. Comfort working with a variety of materials used in large-part machining. Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and suggest process improvements. Solid communication skills and willingness to collaborate with other machinists and shop personnel. Why Work Here?
