Job Title:
CNC Machinist Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components according to engineering prints and specifications. You will ensure high-quality output through accurate machining, thorough inspection, and detailed documentation of production and quality data, while supporting maintenance and continuous improvement efforts in a standard machine shop environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC machines efficiently, including CNC lathes and mills, by installing and adjusting tooling, checking inserts, making offsets, and deburring finished parts. Manufacture components accurately according to engineering prints, blueprints, and detailed specifications, ensuring parts meet dimensional and tolerance requirements. Conduct quality assurance inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools to verify that parts comply with required standards. Accurately document quality data and production metrics for reporting, traceability, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support preventive maintenance efforts by performing routine checks on CNC machines and promptly informing maintenance staff of any potential issues or abnormalities to minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company policies and standard machine shop practices. Review production schedules, prioritize tasks, and prepare equipment, tooling, and materials for daily operations to meet production goals. Perform light corrective maintenance on machinery to address minor issues promptly and help keep equipment in good working order. Safely handle raw materials, workpieces, and finished components throughout the production process. Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including the development and implementation of new fixturing and tooling solutions to enhance efficiency and quality. Use CNC controls, including Fanuc systems, to perform setups, adjust programs as needed within authorized parameters, and ensure consistent machine performance. Essential Skills Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience operating and setting up CNC lathes and mills, including both horizontal and vertical machining centers (preferred). Proficiency in CNC setup and CNC operating for both mills and lathes. Demonstrated ability to perform complete setups, including tooling selection, tool changes, offsets, and trial runs. Strong experience working with Fanuc controls for CNC machine setup and operation. Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and blueprints accurately. Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers (mics), and gauges to perform inspections and verify part quality. Experience performing offsets, tool changes, and adjustments to maintain part quality and machine performance. Skilled in documenting production data and quality metrics accurately and consistently using appropriate reporting tools or systems. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Demonstrated machining experience in a standard machine shop environment, including working with mills, lathes, and related equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with both horizontal and vertical machining centers. Familiarity with deburring practices and finishing techniques for machined components. Experience supporting preventive and light corrective maintenance on CNC machines. Comfort working with Fanuc-based CNC controls and similar control platforms. Ability to contribute ideas for process improvements, fixturing, and tooling to enhance productivity and quality. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistent quality standards. Capability to prioritize tasks based on production schedules and adapt to changing priorities. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is for a 2nd shift schedule, working Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with occasional Saturday overtime that is usually voluntary. The role is based in a standard machine shop environment that includes CNC mills, lathes, and related machining equipment, including Fanuc-controlled machines. You will work around typical shop noise, machinery, and materials while following established safety practices. The setting supports a relaxed culture while maintaining professional expectations for safety, cleanliness, and organization during shift hours.
