Job Title:
CNC Setup Machinist Job Description The CNC Setup Machinist operates and sets up a variety of CNC machining and turning centers to produce precision components to tight tolerances. This role involves selecting and preparing tools, positioning and securing workpieces, and verifying part quality using precision measuring instruments in a fast-paced machine shop environment. Responsibilities Operate a variety of CNC machining centers and CNC turning centers to produce precision parts. Set up CNC machines, including selecting and installing appropriate tools, workholding, and fixtures. Position, align, and securely clamp workpieces to ensure safe and accurate machining. Work to and maintain tight tolerances on parts according to specifications and blueprints. Check and verify own work using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools, and document results as required. Use locating fixtures when needed to ensure repeatability and accuracy in production. Select and prepare tools to meet varying material types and machining conditions. Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements. Monitor machine performance during operation and make adjustments to maintain part quality. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience operating CNC machines with setup responsibilities. Hands-on experience with CNC machining centers and CNC turning centers. Ability to perform CNC setups, including tool selection and workholding configuration. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints. Ability to hold and verify tight tolerances on machined parts. Skilled in using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to work effectively in a machine shop environment and follow safety guidelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with CNC vertical machining centers. Experience working with CNC horizontal machining centers. Experience working with CNC turning centers. Familiarity with Mazak CNC machines. Familiarity with Makino CNC machines. Familiarity with Puma CNC machines. Familiarity with Hyundai Kia/Wia CNC machines. Familiarity with Haas CNC machines. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a machine shop environment with a strong focus on precision machining. The facility operates modern CNC equipment, including vertical and horizontal machining centers and CNC turning centers from brands such as Mazak, Makino, Puma, Hyundai Kia/Wia, and Haas. The first shift operates from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the second shift operates from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Team members work around active machinery and are expected to follow standard shop safety practices and wear appropriate shop-appropriate attire and personal protective equipment as required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Butler, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
