Job Description
SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of intermediate professional and technical work providing Town information to the public, media, and Town employees on programs, projects, services, issues, and policies as well as related work as required. Builds and executes the Town's social media strategy. Researches, develops and/or enhances platforms used by the Town. Oversees maintenance of the Town's website. Generates, edits, publishes, and shares daily content (texts, images, videos, etc.). Reacts to emerging situations and responds accordingly within a timely manner. Oversees special communication or marketing projects including but not limited to community and economic development, strategy and innovation, community engagement, etc. Develops material for internal and external use, such as employee communications, press releases, etc. Responds to media inquiries. Maintains a communications plan. Assists with marketing and economic development efforts. Assists with the Town's Emergency Response Plan and Emergency Action Plan. Maintains an archive of media material relating to the Town. Promotes and supports the overall mission of the Town by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. Performs related duties as necessary.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, public information, marketing, or related field. Three (3) years' experience in Public Information, Public Relations, Marketing, or the like. OR a n equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with local government, public service, nonprofit, or community-based communications. Experience creating content for social media, websites, newsletters, press releases, flyers, videos, graphics, or similar materials. Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe products, video editing software, website platforms, email marketing tools, or social media scheduling platforms. Bilingual communication skills, especially English and Spanish, are helpful.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Required Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of writing, designing, and editing techniques required to prepare documents, reports, and marketing materials. Thorough knowledge of the Town's structure, policies, procedures, programs. Thorough knowledge of public information and modern principles and practices of public relations media. General knowledge of the structure of local, state, and federal governments as well as Town departments and responsibilities. Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Computer applications related to the work. Techniques for working collaboratively with the public.Required Skills:
Developing promotional copy and performing technical editorial work. Writing public information reports and releases. Working closely with various citizens, committees, and staff members at all levels. Working independently and organizing work appropriately. Using a personal computer, digital camera, and similar types of apparatus/equipment to complete work. Developing public relations strategies and providing consultation and technical assistance to management and staff on communications. Coordinating social media applications such as, but not limited to, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, Excel, and Publisher, CSS, and HTML. Identifying/defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions. Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines. Interpreting and dealing with several abstract and concrete variables. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
