Job Title:
Concrete Technician Job Description This role focuses on installing concrete formwork and placing concrete to repair severely deteriorated structural elements within existing buildings. The technician works primarily on beams, columns, and slabs, performing tasks such as formwork, concrete placement, drilling and epoxying reinforcing steel, and concrete chipping as needed. Projects are located across the Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia areas and involve structural preservation and restoration work on commercial sites. Responsibilities Install and remove concrete formwork for beams, columns, slabs, and other structural elements inside existing buildings. Place, finish, and cure concrete in areas where existing concrete is severely deteriorated. Drill holes and epoxy reinforcing steel (rebar) into existing concrete to support structural repairs. Perform concrete chipping and demolition work to remove damaged or deteriorated concrete prior to repair. Assist with concrete restoration activities, including grouting and patching as required. Use hand tools, power tools, and air compressors safely and effectively to complete assigned tasks. Tie reinforcing steel and assist with rebar placement to meet project specifications. Support form carpentry and framing work related to concrete form construction and installation. Work on a variety of structural elements, including slabs, beams, columns, and precast components. Follow construction plans, drawings, and instructions from supervisors to ensure quality and accuracy of work. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area on active commercial construction sites. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of tools and equipment. Collaborate with other field personnel and trades to complete projects efficiently and on schedule. Travel to various job sites within the Baltimore, DC, and Northern Virginia regions as assigned. Essential Skills 2+ years of concrete labor or outdoor construction experience. 2-6 years of concrete experience in areas such as finishing, form carpentry, and rebar tying. Hands-on experience with concrete finishing and concrete restoration. Proficiency in installing and working with concrete forms and formwork systems. Ability to perform concrete chipping and demolition using appropriate tools and equipment. Experience using hand tools and power tools commonly used in concrete and construction work. Familiarity with grouting techniques and use of grouting equipment. Experience operating air compressors for chipping and other concrete restoration tasks. Ability to work on structural elements such as slabs, beams, columns, and precast components. Capability to drill and epoxy reinforcing steel into existing concrete. Comfort working on commercial construction sites with varying project sizes and scopes. Willingness and ability to work days, nights, and weekends as project schedules require. Physical ability to perform demanding manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working in various positions for extended periods. Strong adherence to safety practices and procedures on active construction sites. Additional Skills & Qualifications Approximately 18 months or more of experience on concrete projects involving formwork, chipping, grouting, and use of air compressors. Experience with post-tension concrete systems for candidates with 6+ years of concrete experience. Background in general labor on construction sites, particularly in outdoor or structural concrete work. Exposure to precast concrete installation or repair. Experience working on projects of varying durations, from short-term assignments to multi-year contracts. Ability to adapt to different job sites within a regional territory and work with multiple crews. Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate effectively with field personnel and supervisors. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based out of an office that manages structural preservation projects across the Baltimore to Northern Virginia corridor, with most work clustered in the Washington, DC and Northern Virginia area. Projects range from small assignments lasting less than three weeks to large, complex jobs exceeding $10 million and continuing for more than two years. Field personnel can be assigned to any site within this region, and efforts are made to keep assignments as close to home as possible. The organization maintains a sizable field workforce of approximately 150-200 employees and operates on a 24/7/365 schedule, so candidates must be comfortable working days, nights, and weekends as needed. Work takes place on commercial construction sites, often within existing buildings and on structural elements such as beams, columns, and slabs. The environment involves active construction conditions, use of hand tools, power tools, air compressors, and other concrete-related equipment, and requires consistent adherence to safety protocols and appropriate work attire suitable for commercial job sites. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elkridge, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00/hr.
