Job Description

Job Summary:
Supports the efforts of the Volunteer Services Program to provide home repairs for Sacred Heart Southern Missions clients. Instructs and guides volunteer groups in safely executing general construction and rehab activities. Responsible for training volunteers to safely handle specialized equipment and tools. Assesses project sites to determine the viability of projects that can be performed by volunteers based on their competencies and skill levels. Maintains inventory of all equipment and materials used by volunteers. Ensures that each work site has appropriate products and materials available at each job site for volunteers to begin work. This is a non-exempt position subject to overtime compensation; some weekend work is required when volunteer groups are in.
Education/Training & Experience:
High school diploma or GED Minimum of five (5) years of trade experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified Roofing experience and general construction skills required Must possess a valid driver's license
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office program or programs as indicated in the specific function within the department (i.e. excel or other spreadsheet software). Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to exercise independent judgment with tact and diplomacy in all situations. Understand SHSM mission, vision and values with a commitment to achieve the goals of the organization. Ability to demonstrate skill in organization, coordination and time management. Must be able to provide effective instructions to volunteers and mission groups. Must be able to communicate verbally in an effective and positive manner with staff, volunteers and customers. Must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills. Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce all required safety protocols and procedures. Skills required include project oversight, and problem resolution.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Accompany the Volunteer Coordinator and/or Job Foreman on referred project job sites as requested. Must be able to work one on one with a variety of different age groups of volunteers. These include high school, middle school, collegiate level and adults and the ability to train, instruct and assist groups and leaders in the performance of tasks to complete. Proactively coordinates program activities with the Volunteer Coordinator and Job Foreman to meet the needs of identified customers. Inventory maintenance, cleaning and storing of all tools, equipment and supplies. With minimum supervision, determines code requirements are in accordance with local specifications. With minimum supervision, work independently to establish and meet deadlines of home repair projects. Demonstrates ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure utilizing whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Performs other job functions as assigned. Position:
There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position. This position may be responsible for training and orienting lower level staff and volunteers
Physical Demands/Conditions:
The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Roof work and crawl spaces under homes are required periodically as project needs are identified. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. Loading, unloading, carrying and operation of tools are required. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations. Frequent travel outside of the office setting on a regular basis within a five-county region. While groups are present, one should expect long days working outside and exposed to outdoor elements. These include heat, rain, water, humidity, steam, corrosive materials, odors and other conditions. •This position requires a pre-employment background and reference check, as well as drug and alcohol testing.
