Job Title:
Controls Engineer Job Description The Controls Engineer supports highly automated, high‑volume manufacturing operations with a primary focus on PLC‑based control systems, robotics integration, and equipment reliability. In this role, you partner closely with manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering teams to support production, troubleshoot complex controls issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives in a modern, automation‑intensive environment. Responsibilities Support and improve automated manufacturing systems in a high‑volume production environment to maximize uptime and throughput. Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, robotics, and industrial network issues that impact production, ensuring quick resolution and minimal downtime. Support new equipment installations, upgrades, and system modifications, including commissioning and integration into existing systems. Analyze production and fault data to identify root causes of issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date controls documentation, standards, and backups for all supported equipment and systems. Partner with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering, to improve system stability, reliability, and safety. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation reliability, process optimization, and equipment performance. Provide hands‑on support in live production environments, including responding to line calls and supporting shift‑based operations. Follow and promote safety procedures and best practices in all aspects of controls work within the plant. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline. Experience supporting automation in high‑volume manufacturing operations. Hands‑on experience with PLCs, including PLC programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Hands‑on experience with HMIs, including configuration, troubleshooting, and integration with PLC systems. Experience working with industrial networks in a production environment. Strong troubleshooting skills in live production environments, including the ability to diagnose and resolve controls, electrical, and automation issues under time pressure. Ability to support and improve PLC‑based control systems and robotics integration. Willingness and ability to work all three shifts and weekends as required by production needs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting automation and controls in complex, high‑volume, multi‑shift manufacturing operations. Background in controls, electrical, or general engineering in an automated production setting. Experience analyzing production and fault data to drive continuous improvement and corrective actions. Familiarity with robotics, conveyors, and modern automated tooling systems. Comfort working within large OEM manufacturing networks and adhering to cross‑plant standards. Interest in long‑term career growth in a highly automated, continuously modernized manufacturing environment. Work Environment This role is based in a large, high‑volume automotive production and manufacturing facility. Approximately 75% of the time is spent on the production floor and 25% in an engineering office environment. The plant operates multiple shifts and runs high‑volume lines producing trucks and commercial vehicles, creating a fast‑paced environment with continuous technical challenges around uptime, automation reliability, and throughput. Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times in production areas, including safety glasses, high‑visibility vests, and arm covers. The site is a large assembly footprint that has received substantial investment in automation, controls, robotics, conveyors, and tooling, providing exposure to modern manufacturing systems and a stable, long‑term work environment with opportunities for skill development and career growth. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wentzville, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
