This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees who have permanent status and are ready to advance in their career. As the supervisor responsible for Unit 1 security operations, the incumbent will oversee staff performance and daily functions within Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC), a Class 2 facility with an operational capacity of 1,808 adult male offenders ranging from minimum to maximum custody. RLCC is staffed by 355 authorized positions, supported by unclassified, temporary, and contract-funded employees. Five years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR 2. One year of experience in any field; OR 3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer. Two years of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current driver's license. Responsible for giving appropriate guidance and directions to subordinates assigned to this Unit Makes recommendations to the Administrative Staff regarding personnel actions on subordinate employees such as granting of permanent status, disciplinary actions, promotions and performance evaluations. Work a flex schedule as approved by the Chief of Security and make daily inspections of this Unit and ensures that all security rules, regulations, and procedures are being enforced. Ensures that appropriate security measures are in effect in all areas.Position-Specific Details :
