Experience:
Manager Salary:
$100,000 - $130,000 per year Job Details - The Cost Controls Manager is a newly created role designed to strengthen financial governance, cost visibility, and change management across large‑scale capital projects. This position will play a critical role in establishing best‑in‑class cost control practices, owning project financial performance from early planning through closeout, and serving as a trusted partner to project, design, and construction leadership. This role will manage project costs for complex construction initiatives ranging from approximately $50M to $200M, with a strong emphasis on forecasting accuracy, change control discipline, and proactive risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities Project Cost Management:
Establish, maintain, and manage comprehensive project budgets, cost forecasts, and financial plans. Track actual costs against approved budgets, identifying trends, risks, and variances early. Prepare and deliver clear, actionable cost reports and forecasts for project leadership and stakeholders. Review and validate contractor and subcontractor pay applications to ensure alignment with actual project progress. Support cash flow forecasting and payment processing activities.
Change Control & Commercial Risk:
Own the end‑to‑end change control process, ensuring scope, schedule, and cost changes are properly reviewed, documented, and approved. Analyze, negotiate, and manage contractor change orders to minimize cost exposure and scope creep. Maintain accurate change order logs and provide ongoing visibility into potential and approved cost impacts. Partner with design and construction teams to identify potential cost drivers early and implement mitigation strategies. Support contract administration activities related to RFIs, amendments, and cost‑related documentation. Cross‑
Functional Collaboration:
Serve as the primary cost management resource for project teams. Collaborate closely with Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and Legal teams to align commercial outcomes with organizational objectives. Build productive working relationships with general contractors, vendors, and consultants to support performance and cost control.
Process Development & Improvement:
Help establish and standardize cost control tools, reporting, and best practices across projects. Leverage project controls systems and data visualization tools to enhance forecasting and decision‑making. Drive continuous improvement in cost tracking, reporting consistency, and financial transparency.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline preferred.
Experience:
3-5+ years of experience in project cost controls, cost engineering, estimating, or construction financial management. Experience supporting large, complex construction projects, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, or multifamily environments.
Skills & Technical Expertise:
Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for large construction projects. Demonstrated experience managing pay applications, change orders, and contractor negotiations. Advanced proficiency in Procore, Microsoft Excel, and project controls or scheduling tools; PowerPoint proficiency for executive reporting. Solid understanding of construction market conditions and cost benchmarks, including mechanical, electrical, and structural systems. Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
