County Youth Coordinator 400 220th Ave, Sigourney, IA 52591 From $20 an hour - Full-time From $20 an hour - Full-time
I. JOB DESCRIPTION
This position will work in a team environment with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Extension Council and staff to provide day to day leadership in Keokuk County 4-H and K-12 outreach programs resulting in positive youth development. The position requires extension knowledge of ISUEO, 4-H, skills in written and oral communication, ability to deliver a wide variety of topics, dependability and confidentiality. The position is under supervision of the Extension Council and Regional Director. The objectives of the position are:
  • Lead Keokuk County's 4-H and youth programs.
  • Educate youth in Keokuk County through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach curriculum in topics of STEM, healthy living, citizenship and leadership, and communications and the arts.
  • Engage youth with delivery methods such as in-school programming, 4-H and Clover Kids Club, afterschool programs, camps, and other youth events.
  • Maintain and grow partnerships with schools, youth organizations and agencies, businesses, and individuals to deliver high quality curriculum developed by ISU and other Land Grant Universities to Iowa's youth.
  • Other activities as assigned
II. QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
  • Associates degree, required. Bachelor's degree preferred—Education related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience working with youth
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills-written and verbal, computer skills
  • Demonstrated interest in youth and volunteer leadership, ability to work with a team
  • Capable of delegating tasks and coordinating volunteer efforts, conflict management skills
  • Valid drivers' license and reliable transportation
  • Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program
  • Some evenings and weekends as deemed necessary
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds
III. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES A.
Program Management 1. Manage appropriate records and prepare reports as required (monthly reports, 4-H Statistical, 4-H publications, etc.) 2. Manage 4-H Online to include volunteer data and volunteer hours, family and youth participation 3. Lead the process of chartering 4-H Clubs 4. Provide leadership in the planning and organization of the Keokuk County Expo which includes working closely with staff members and fair board to hire judges, develop fair schedule, produce fair book, manage Fair Entry, show programs, and other duties as assigned. 5. Manage conflict resolution for youth programs 6. Lead the 4-H and K-12 Outreach program areas of community club, special interest, school enrichment, camps, and others as assigned. 7. Order necessary materials and supplies in a timely manner. 8. Plan, promote, and implement 4-H and K-12 Outreach activities 9. Collaborate with 4-H Youth Development Program Specialist to implement programs in Keokuk County B. Youth Development 1. Organize and lead educational activities as assigned. 2. Educate youth on life development skills and encourage program participation. 3. Meet with 4-H County Youth Council; provide leadership to assist them in planning and carrying out activities. C. Communication and Member Client Support 1. Maintain correspondence with 4-H members, volunteers, Extension support staff and the public, which will include newsletters, news releases, and written correspondence. 2. Schedule and facilitate meetings with club leaders, and liaison between Extension and Expo Fair Board. Provide leadership to assist them in planning and implementing group activities. 3. Develop and provideforms, flyers and correspondence for area and state events and opportunities. 4. Assist with social media presence, webpage, and MyData, D. Professional Volunteer Development 1. Assist and support leadership training for youth, leaders, and volunteers with Youth Program Specialist 2. Recruit and screen volunteers for various roles and activities. 3. Lead and support volunteers in conducting assigned tasks. E. Pertinent Skills . 1. Work efficiently and effectively in a team atmosphere as a productive member. 2. Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter, while still communicating and collaborating with other staff and team members 3. Provide information and assist in recruiting audiences for activities and events. 4. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other groups, agencies, organizations, and schools. F. Resource Development 1. Leverage partnerships to secure public/private program support 2. Lead and manage grant and fundraising opportunities to best support 4-H and K- 12 programming
